Your Hendersonville Wedding Weekend Guide

A wedding in the mountains is a great excuse to stay a while. Downtown Hendersonville and Flat Rock are a 5 to 15 minute drive from Thornhill Farm, and Asheville is 30 to 45 minutes away, so your guests can turn one day into a whole weekend. Here are our family's favorite places to stay, eat and explore. Feel free to share this page with your guests.

Where to stay

  • The Farmhouse at Thornhill Farm: Four bedrooms that sleep 8 to 10, a fishing pond, fire pit and wrap around porch with mountain and barn views. It books on VRBO and is a perfect home base for the couple or the wedding party.

  • The Henderson: A charming boutique hotel in downtown Hendersonville with historic character.

  • 1898 Waverly Inn: A historic bed and breakfast with Victorian decor, close to downtown.

  • Hampton Inn Hendersonville: Modern rooms, complimentary breakfast and easy access to main roads.

  • Echo Mountain Inn: A rustic inn with gorgeous mountain views, a little outside of town.

  • Mill House Lodge: A cozy lakeside stay with kitchenettes in the rooms.

Planning tip: reserve a room block early, especially for fall dates, when leaf season fills the mountains.

Friday: welcome everyone to town

  • Coffee: Black Bear Coffee, Southern Streams Coffee, Arabella, or Flat Rock Village Bakery (our favorite)

  • Lunch: Mike's on Main or Mountain Deli

  • Rehearsal dinner: Hold it right on the farm grounds, or head downtown to Mezzaluna, West First, Shine or Umi

  • Drinks after: Sierra Nevada Brewing Company (the best, in our opinion), Oklawaha Brewing Company or Boodas Brewing Company

  • Something sweet: McFarlan Bake Shop, Celtic Creamery WNC or Kilwins

Saturday morning: ideas for guests with free time

  • Walk the Oklawaha Greenway, a 3.25 mile trail about five minutes from downtown Hendersonville

  • Drive up to Jump Off Rock, 15 minutes from downtown, for one of the grandest panoramic views in Western North Carolina

  • Tour Carl Sandburg's Home in Flat Rock

  • Stroll Rhododendron Lake Nature Park in Laurel Park, with almost a mile of walking paths and a fishing pond

Sunday: brunch, wine and one more adventure

  • Brunch in Asheville: Tupelo Honey, Early Girl Eatery, Sunny Point CafĂ© or Laughing Seed Cafe

  • Wineries: Point Lookout Vineyards sits at 3,000 feet with panoramic views, about 30 minutes from the farm. Burntshirt Vineyards, Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards and Marked Tree Vineyard are close by too.

  • Family fun: Grandad's Apples has an apple orchard, pumpkin patch, corn maze and country store. Apple and berry picking around Hendersonville is a local tradition.

  • Big outings: Biltmore House and Winery, The North Carolina Arboretum, or a show at The Flat Rock Playhouse

  • Bigger hikes: Looking Glass Rock near Brevard (6.5 miles), Mount Pisgah or Craggy Pinnacle
